Suda Kokuta infused his works with ceaseless energy in a distinctive and vigorous style. After having experimented with various media in figurative painting in the early years, Suda started working on abstract paintings in the 1950s. Later, he was introduced to the avant-garde calligraphy through the Bokubi journal and the Bokujin-kai members. Suda was enchanted with the medium, and had worked on a great many calligraphic pieces from a contemporary abstract painter’s point of view.
