Art Fair Tokyo 2025

Have you ever heard of the term “Art Brut”?

Coined by the French painter Jean Dubuffet in the 1940s, Art Brut refers to “raw” art created by individuals outside the traditional art historical context. In Japan, this concept is often perceived as the art created by individuals with disabilities, which often leads to various discussions.

The works produced by these artists, where the act of creation and living are inseparably intertwined, effortlessly transcend the conventional boundaries of Art Brut, radiating a powerful brilliance.

We sincerely look forward to welcoming you to our presentation at Art Fair Tokyo 2025.

The Sound Emanating from Okazaki Marino’s Works

If one were to draw a parallel between Okazaki’s works and those of another artist, it would be more appropriate to consider them not in terms of linear characteristics, but rather as non-objective images that evoke a space imbued with vitality and temporality. In this context, Wassily Kandinsky serves as a pertinent comparison. Art historian Sixten Ringbom identified the “Sounding Cosmos” in Kandinsky’s works, and it is plausible that a similar resonance can be discerned in Okazaki’s creations. Furthermore, Okazaki generates this resonance not through a symphony or concerto, but solely with a single instrument—a pen and a sheet of paper.
